Groundhogs Day

If anyone has ever seen the movie Groundhog Day, they will understand what I’m talking about. Life repeats itself with Jade. Each morning, he comes down the stairs, walks into my room, and says, “Happy Mother’s Day.” Then he looks around for his dad and says, “Where’s my butler?” After that, he will walk into the kitchen, set out peanut butter, tuna fish, wine, and Campbell’s soup, and say to his butler, “I made breakfast for you… describe it!” To which Frank will reply, “What??? Tuna fish and peanut butter… I LOVE IT… NOT!!!! Then Jade will laugh as hard as he did the first time, years and years ago. (I’m not kidding; every day for 23 years). The funny thing, I actually look forward to it every day.

Grocery Shopping. Don’t ask me why, but he loves to go grocery shopping. I really dislike it. That is, except for the part where he throws extra weird stuff in and says, “It will help me grow abs.” Every time we go. Groundhogs Day.

Every night, I say, “Goodnight, Jade, I love you,” and he says, “Uhuh.” I say, “Jade, I love you.” And he says, “Uhuh.” I say, “JADE…” and he finally says, “Goodnight. I love u too, Mom.” Groundhogs Day.

At times, repeating the same thing over and over can seem frustrating. However, I have found that it can also bring a smile to my face on a rough day.

Groundhogs Day is not such a bad thing.
