I know everyone has different things that fill their tank—things that bring them so much joy that they can’t help but smile. For me, it’s when Jade wakes up in the morning, and I can hear his voice from all the way downstairs as he belts out a tune loudly, singing in a way only Jade can. I could never feel comfortable singing, knowing someone was listening, let alone at the top of my lungs like Jade does. His ability to be at ease with who he is fills my tank. In fact, he genuinely believes he can sing really well. He often asks his dad, “Who sings better, me or Elvis Presley?” Then he will sing an Elvis song for us and perform a cool dance to go along with it. At the end, he demands a vote, and although Elvis might be turning over in his grave, we always choose Jade. His immediate response after that is, “Sign me up for The Voice.” Most of us could use more confidence, self-assurance, and that sweet “I like myself” kind of vibe. I’m so thankful for that in Jade, and when I hear that voice every morning, I can’t help but smile, as it fills my tank for the day.
